My bill – AB 1611 – is moving now to the State Senate.
As Southern Californians head outdoors this summer to enjoy our pristine beaches and beautiful coastland, they should know irresponsible owner/operators of large merchant vessels will be held accountable!
My bill mandates they notify authorities if they HIT or THINK THEY HIT an oil pipeline in State waters. Fines will significantly increase with any delay.
That Huntington Beach disaster NEVER should have happened. The pipeline had been hit 8 MONTHS before the leak became evident.
That is unacceptable!
A myriad of small businesses in our coastal towns suffered. Sea life was threatened. Our beautiful coastline was damaged.
