Biography
Assemblywoman Laurie Davies represents California’s 74th Assembly District, which includes southern Orange County and northern San Diego County communities such as Dana Point, Laguna Niguel, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Oceanside, Vista, Camp Pendleton, and Fallbrook.
Originally from Wisconsin, Laurie pursued the California dream after saving enough money to buy a Cutlass Supreme and moving west to attend Cal State Long Beach. She worked her way through school and later planted roots in Orange County, working in the hospitality industry before launching a successful wedding and events business
As a small business owner and former Mayor of Laguna Niguel, Laurie was elected to the State Assembly in 2020 and re-elected in 2022 and 2024. She serves as Vice Chair of the Assembly Committees on Transportation and Governmental Organization, and sits on the Committees for Utilities and Energy, Military and Veterans Affairs, and the Legislative Ethics Committee. She is a proud member of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, working to put solutions ahead of politics.
Assemblywoman Davies has focused on delivering practical solutions for California families. Last year, she authored legislation to ensure high school students receive information about trade schools and apprenticeship opportunities, opening more pathways to success beyond a traditional college route. Her work on coastal erosion led to two bills signed into law, firstly ensuring those on any Coastal Commission task force have professional knowledge about coastal erosion prevention as well as streamlining access to Coastal Commission grants to accelerate local erosion prevention projects.
Committed to protecting victims and enhancing public safety, Laurie authored legislation extending protective orders for survivors of domestic violence and requiring human trafficking awareness information on tickets for large events. She has also fought to increase penalties for fentanyl dealers and sponsored legislation to provide swim lesson vouchers for underserved children to prevent childhood drownings.
Laurie’s dedication to her district extends beyond legislation. She organized a districtwide diaper drive with the North County Food Bank, hosted a “Salute to First Responders” recognizing local law enforcement, and has championed seniors by defending Proposition 13 and hosting annual Senior Scam Summits. As a longtime member and former Vice Chair of the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, she also leads a Military Advisory Group to stay connected with veterans and military families in her district.
Laurie lives in Laguna Niguel with her husband, Neil, and continues to advocate for public safety, economic opportunity, and ensuring our community has a voice in Sacramento.
