AB 1005 Passes Key Vote in the Assembly Education Committee this Week.
Sacramento – April 9th, Assemblymember Laurie Davies (R-Laguna Niguel) announced that her first in the nation Drowning Prevention Education and Swim Lesson Voucher bill has cleared its first key vote and moves forward in the State Assembly.
“Numbers don’t lie,” said Davies. “The statistics clearly show drowning is the leading cause of death for our young children.” The Assemblymember ended her remarks to the committee by asking they join her in the fight against drowning.
AB 1005, Passed unanimously out of the Assembly Education Committee, seeks to end drowning in California by providing education to children and their guardians on best practices for water safety. The bill will also establish a Swim Voucher program in order to ensure our most vulnerable communities can access swimming lessons.
AB 1005 will now go to the Assembly Appropriations Committee for further consideration. The Assemblymember has expressed her excitement to continue work on AB 1005 with legislative colleagues, and to end drowning in California.
