RE: Asking Commissioner Lara to hold live workshops in Orange County for constituents to share their concerns
Dear Commissioner Lara,
We are writing to you to request your office to hold live workshops in Orange County for our constituents so that they could share their concerns with the recent drastic rises in fire insurance premiums.
In 2021, in one of our Orange County communities, the premium was $50,000. Due to the fire rates, that premium jumped to $650,000 in 2022. This year, the premium in this community is now $750,000. This increase is not only burdensome on our constituents, especially during a time of high inflation, but unsustainable. While we appreciated the recently passed order by your office, such as “Safer from Wildfires” and a related proposal from September of 2022, this did not have a positive impact on our rates. We feel that more work is urgently needed.
We feel that live workshops in our constituencies would not only be beneficial educational experience for our constituents about the rises of these premiums, but for constituents to share their experiences and how these premium hikes are effecting their everyday lives.
We are grateful that you consider our request.
