E-bike Safety Survey

E-bike safety is an issue I hear about constantly from families across our community – and for good reason. As e-bikes have become more popular, especially among young riders, we’ve also seen a rise in accidents, unsafe behavior, and concerns about enforcement and education.

To better understand where our community stands, I asked you directly.

The results were overwhelming.

Nearly 97% of respondents said they were already aware of safety concerns involving student e-bike use, showing just how widespread this issue has become. Even more telling, over 85% said they are very concerned about student safety on or around school campuses.

But what stood out most wasn’t just the concern – it was the clear support for solutions.

An overwhelming 95% of respondents support requiring basic e-bike safety training before students can park on campus, including more than 90% who strongly support it. And when asked what approach schools should take, nearly 86% said requiring safety training is the most reasonable path forward, while only a small fraction supported banning e-bikes outright.

There was also broad agreement on the role schools should play. More than 90% agree that schools should take reasonable steps to ensure students understand how to ride safely, including over 72% who strongly agree.

What this tells me is simple: this isn’t about taking something away – it’s about doing it the right way.

Our community supports e-bikes, but they also expect responsibility, education, and common-sense safety measures to come with them.

These results reinforce the work I’ve been doing to advance practical, balanced solutions that prioritize safety while preserving the benefits e-bikes offer.

I will continue fighting for policies that protect our families, support our schools, and ensure that everyone can feel safe on our streets.
