Sacramento, CA – Earlier today, Assemblywoman Laurie Davies recognized Semper Fi & America’s Fund as the 74th Assembly District’s 2026 Nonprofit of the Year at the California Nonprofit of the Year Luncheon. The event is hosted by CalNonprofits.
Assemblywoman Davies stated, “Semper Fi represents the best of America – a strong commitment to serving those who have sacrificed so much for our country. Their work goes far beyond immediate assistance, and I am deeply grateful for what they do to aid our veterans, active-duty service members and families.”
Semper Fi & America’s Fund is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing immediate financial assistance and lifelong support to wounded and critically ill service members, veterans, and their families. Founded in 2004 by military spouses, the organization offers a wide range of programs focused on recovery, rehabilitation, reintegration, assistance with medical expenses, adaptive equipment, housing, transportation, and career transition. The Fund ensures that those who have served our country receive the support to rebuild their lives with dignity and independence.
Founder & CEO Karen Guenther expressed her gratitude saying, “It is such a privilege to be recognized for the hard work we do in service of our catastrophically wounded, critically ill, and injured service members, veterans, and military families. Your recognition means the world to us”
“By selecting Semper Fi & America’s Fund as AD 74’s Nonprofit of the Year, we recognize the difference one organization can make in so many lives,” Davies added. “Their growth from a small group of dedicated military spouses into a nationwide support network reflects their commitment to service.”
The Fund began at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, when military spouses came together to support servicemembers returning from Operation Iraqi Freedom. What started as a grassroots effort has grown into a nationally recognized nonprofit that has supported more than 39,000 heroes from all branches nationwide, providing immediate financial assistance and lifelong support.
Assembly District 74 is home to more than 26,000 veterans, one of the highest concentrations in the state, making the work of The Fund critical. As former Vice Chair of the Assembly Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs, Assemblywoman Davies has worked to elevate issues impacting the veteran community and constantly advocates for meaningful policy solutions. She has also hosted community roundtables, where she and local veterans collaborate in open dialogue discussing critical challenges such as housing and affordability, and ensuring their voices are heard in the policymaking process.
