Davies Dispatch – A Bloated Budget & a Failure to Help Californians

Sacramento Democrats ignored the expensive reality our constituents are facing and passed the biggest budget EVER in State history.

The $300 billion dollar boondoggle ignored bi-partisan efforts to freeze the state’s gas tax, set to increase again in two weeks with Californians paying $6.40 a gallon – the most expensive in the nation. There’s no mention of efforts to tackle inflation, just more small checks used to hide the fact that Californians are paying more to feed their families.

This bill is a laundry list of pet-projects and gimmicks meant for headlines, not responsible spending. There’s nothing in it to tackle the real issues Californians are faced with today: wildfires, drought, escalating cost of living and rampant inflation.

The one bright spot: I am pleased to see $22 million dollars included for a fentanyl task force. It’s time the state gets serious about ending the drug-epidemic.

As California braces for another summer of rolling blackouts and record-high electric prices, legislators should be ashamed of this do little $300 billion dollar balloon. We need to do better for the residents of California.
